Background
Well, there really isn’t any introduction here as really this brand doesn’t need it. Much like Jack Daniels, Jim Bean or Makers Mark, at some point in time if you have ever been to a bar and order something that is whiskey you have heard of the brand Wild Turkey. What most people might not realize is the depth of products that they have under their umbrella. But for today we are here to talk about Wild Turkey 101.
For us here at the WhiskeyDR, we use this as our opener for a lot of high proof alcohols. We do this as your tongue isn’t accustomed to drinking stuff generally over 100 proof right out the gate. In most cases, you’ll get a numbing effect or stinging effect that from the alcohol evaporating off your taste buds.
For over 75 years, Wild Turkey has been making this juice just about the same since its inception all those years ago. The same way you grand father probably drank it, same taste your dad probably drank it, to now possibly you if your part of the younger generation of drinkers. And when were old and have kids of our own, it will likely still be made the same way some 30 plus years down the road.
But enough of that, on to the review

This one’s going to be quick and simple. She’s harsh, full of oak, and carry’s a flavor of vanilla. It isn’t complicated. It isn’t nice. She’s good and wakes your palette up for the stuff you intended to drink later. She also a good base for some cocktails, but beyond that there isn’t much else.
Conclusion
This one is usually some of the first bourbons you try in your path to bigger and better things. A lot of people will either look at this and walk away as the harshness will most certainly drive you away at first. But if your able to stick with it for longer than say a month, you will open your palette to bigger and better things in the world of bourbons.
This bottle isn’t complicated and can be a great start for beginner’s and for those, like me, who have been trying other things will find this not remarkable. For me this is still the best tool to open our palette for tasting bottles in the 130’s and 140’s as far as proof.
For the money, this is one of those you can pick up and the quality is there every time. It will always taste the same almost every time I pick a bottle up.
